Class A exceptional quality (EQ) biosolids are available for home garden and landscape use, and can be used like any other soil amendment found at garden and landscape stores. Class A EQ biosolids are products where high heat has reduced the pathogens to background levels, and metal levels are low enough to pose no threat to human or environmental health. Examples of Class A EQ biosolids include compost, heat-dried pellets, and biosolids blends. These products are frequently used as a soil conditioner, fertilizer, or an ingredient in topsoil blends and potting mixes. Research shows that biosolids are excellent for building soil organic matter, improving soil tilth, adding macro- and micronutrients, improving soil water holding capacity, and reducing erosion.
