Municipal solid waste landfills cover the active surface at the end of each day to reduce vectors (flies and rodents), odors, scavenging, and blowing litter. Instead of soil, recovered resource-derived materials, such as biosolids, can be used as Alternative Daily Cover (ADC). The biosolids are typically mixed with soil and other ADC materials and then placed on top of the active surface each day.
