Recent research has demonstrated that using biosolids as a soil amendment or fertilizer replacement can help to sequester carbon in the soil and offset the emissions associated with the use of synthetic fertilizer. Moreover, when biosolids are made via anaerobic digestion, the biogas, which is created during the treatment process, can be used as a renewable energy and fuel source.
